Corner cabinet just to hold the keys and phone book. Print E-mail

cabinet_3_drawer175.jpgEver had a corner that just needed something.

You come in the door and you want to put your keys and wallet away ...

you have no where safe to put them.

The owner of this beautiful extrance cabinet, wanted something to put their keys and phone books and some extra items that just needed a home.

Before in this space was a one drawer cabinet with open shelves which got messy easily. And wasn't big enough to store every thing they wanted to.

So the solution was to create a 3 drawer cabinet.

Now I don't know if you know...

In most buildings - walls are not square.

So to create this individual piece also needed the cabinet shaped to the wall from front to back. This piece was mad to fit the wall on both sides.

Truly a work of art.

And their keys, wallet and extra things now,  have a home.

Quality sewing cabinet. Print E-mail
storagecabinet175.jpg

The owner wanted a solid timber quality sewing storage cabinet that held everything she owned and wanted to own.

Each drawer was a different size.

No handles so little fingers wouldn't want to open it easily.

On castors for easy moving.

Dovetailed drawers so in the future the drawers won't fall apart.

Stained to match my existing sewing cabinet.

Quality metal drawer runners with a lifetime warranty.

With a new overlocker in the home having a place for the thread was important in a number of sizes.

Get quality that will last as a family heirloom, not just your sewing machine to be given to your kids.

Quality isn't expensive it's priceless.

What most furniture repairs are missing! Print E-mail
clamping_carcase_150.jpg

To repair furniture there are 2 things you need

1.      a good clean surface for the glue to join the fibers of the timber together.

2.      clamps to hold the glue fibers together until the glue has set.

Sounds interesting doesn't it!

Fibers and glue

Yes there are fibers in timber, you see it - when you break a branch off a tree and you pull it apart.

The fibers across the timber are a different size to the fibers down the length of the timber.

For repairing furniture all previous glues need to be removed or the glue that is used to join the surface fibers together will not hold.

Clamps to hold in place

The other important component is clamping the timber pieces in place until the glue is set it often takes a few days to dry completely in a mortise and tennon.

The glue setting takes different times for different glues and timbers.

Sometimes 1 hour is enough, sometimes it takes 4- 6 hours to set correctly.

There are so many things to take into consideration when repairing furniture.

So what are most furniture repairs missing?

Know how, knowledge & skill - to see what best suites this unique job.

Most important though is the clamping of the joins to ensure they are in the correct place with the right glue for the moisture content of the timber.

Can you fix this timber chair? Print E-mail

chairtorepair3a.jpg

The owner of this timber to see if we would look at repairing a chair?

I said bring it down and we will have a look at the chair to see if it could be repaired?...

You see the owner had moved house and the removals, had accidentally damaged the leg of the chair in transport. (right on the top leg there is a crack can you see it?)

Anyway -

We explained yes! It could be repaired to look almost the same as the original leg except for the big knots in the centre of the piece of timber.

We then explained in this chair the knot was the weakest part of the leg of the chair.

In fact the removals had almost done them a favour to have needed the chair repaired now.

Without anyone getting hurt!
